Being in the same room with people and creating something together is a
good thing.

Dakota Summer, MFTA

Hi, I’m Dakota Summer (Pronouns: They/He) and I am a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (MFTA). When it comes to those who are struggling with their emotions, mental health, physical health, and various life transitions, it can be very difficult to find both solace and the treatment that they are searching for. It is my goal to provide the most effective and ethical interventions that will give and strengthen someone’s skills with emotional regulation, interpersonal resolutions and relationships, and both the skills and support for someone to reach their goals.

I utilize a person-centered approach based on a variety of systemic-theory based approaches that revolve around exploring attachment patterns, self-narratives, the structure and dynamics of relationships, the effects of intergenerational trauma on individuals and their relationships, and trauma resiliency. I am respectfully and openly curious about the perspective of others and the various factors that make up who we are. My goal is to help others strengthen and deepen the connection that they have with themselves and the connection that they have with others.

I earned my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, CT. Over the course of my internship with BHcare Shoreline Offices in Branford, CT, and Southern Connecticut State University’s Family Therapy Clinic, I have 2 years of clinical experience providing individual, couple, and family counseling and gender-affirming care within in-person and telehealth settings.

Dakota can accept Anthem, Aetna, Cigna, and Husky.

Dakota provides in-person care on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

A Little More About Me

I am a non-binary/transgender therapist committed to strengthening and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community. When I am not in the office, I enjoy hiking, playing guitar, origami, and baking. I am a huge animal lover and find that they are a great reminder and practitioners of mindfulness.
