It is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self.

Shelby Davis, LPCA, P-RDT

Licensed PROFESSIONAL counselor associate & provisional registered drama therapist

Hello! I'm Shelby Davis (she/her), and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) and Provisional Registered Drama Therapist (P-RDT). Although we do our best to navigate the obstacles in our way, we often find ourselves stuck and struggling to keep moving forward. I believe that therapy is a place for individuals to try something new in an effort to get moving again. This is your space to play with new ways of being and new ways of understanding your story.

Developing a trusting relationship is the most important part of therapy. I aim to provide clients with a warm, supportive, and safe environment to explore life’s most challenging aspects. Once we begin to play with the unplayable, we can uncover new possibilities for building the life we desire.

I have trained in drama therapy, a creative, embodied, and experiential approach. In drama therapy, we explore the stories we tell and the roles we play to create meaningful change. This may include role-play, storytelling, exploring metaphors, and other playful, creative exercises in session. Additionally, I frequently utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), narrative therapy, and Somatic Experiencing in my work.

I have experience supporting adolescents, teens, young adults, adults, and couples on their therapeutic journeys. I work with those struggling with anxiety and panic disorders, trauma, PTSD, and life transitions. I am also particularly interested in working with those with chronic illnesses and chronic pain.

I hold a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, specializing in Drama Therapy, from Lesley University. I am a proud member of the North American Drama Therapy Association (NADTA) and serve as a member of the NADTA research committee. In my role, I am engaged in research on the drama therapy theory. I am also actively involved in research regarding medical trauma and drama therapy in medical education and training.

Shelby participates with Anthem, Aetna, Cigna, and Husky.

Shelby will be providing in-person or virtual/telehealth sessions on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

A Little More About Me

Before my life as a therapist, I received my bachelor's degree in musical theatre and worked full-time in theatre. I continue my involvement in the theatre community by working as the assistant director of the theatre program at a local high school. In my free time, I enjoy watching documentaries, reading nonfiction books, and spoiling my cat, Rosie.
