Lauren Matteau, LCSW, PMH-C
Hi, my name is Lauren Matteau (she/her) and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. While we all have different stories and life paths, one thing we all have in common is that life is full of challenges and changes. During these times, we may feel anxious, depressed, uncertain, confused, angry, and the list goes on. These feelings can be difficult to manage in navigating these twists and turns of life, while simultaneously trying to balance a sense of normalcy and the day-to-day responsibilities. While these times can be difficult, hardships in life can provide an opportunity for growth. They are a chance to reflect, reframe, rebuild, and refresh. And you are not in this alone.
I am passionate about helping clients through life’s ups and downs and empowering them to live the life they dream of happily. I want to work collaboratively with you to achieve your goals. Everyone is different, and your needs and goals are important to me. I want to help you progress towards the specific goals you value in your life by exploring and facing the past and present and then utilizing your resilience, strengths, newfound insights, and skills to build toward your future together.
I earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from UConn and have had the privilege of working with various clients throughout my career. I have experience working with children, teenagers, and adults ranging from early to late adulthood. I have worked with individuals, families, and groups in outpatient settings, most recently providing inpatient medical support in a hospital setting. I have been able to help individuals struggling with various types of anxiety (generalized, separation, social, situational, etc.), depression, perinatal mental health concerns, grief and bereavement, trauma, divorce, relationship challenges, family discord, life transitions, adjustment periods, and medical hardships.
I have experience providing therapy utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, motivational interviewing, and therapy based on various approaches and theories, including empowerment, strengths-based, family structural, and attachment. I have a particular focus on supporting those on a perinatal journey…I welcome new moms and moms-to-be! I hold advanced PSI (Postpartum Support International) training and the PSI Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C).
Your words, feelings, and experiences matter. Every individual’s life journey is different, special, and important. I feel it’s crucial to our therapeutic relationship that you feel heard and that your own goals and values are honored in our work together.
Lauren participates with Aetna, Anthem and Husky plans.
Lauren is currently only providing sessions via telehealth.
A Little More About Me
Much of my life has been spent actively working towards achieving my goals and acquiring knowledge and experience to get to this present point where I am now able to practice in an area of my profession that I am very passionate about. When I’m not working with clients, I’m often spending my time with family and friends. I love to surround myself with those closest to me. I strongly value connection and put lots of effort in nurturing those relationships in my life with quality time and meaningful communication. I also highly value self-care. I enjoy spending time outside, whether that’s going to the beach, hiking, or sitting outside with a good book. I love to travel and explore new places and cultures. I’ve also developed quite the love of cooking. I really enjoy learning new things and taking time to reset and recharge.
