Dave Ursillo Jr., MA, LPCA, E-RYT-200
Licensed professional counselor Associate
Welcome! I’m Dave Ursillo (he/him/his) and I’m a Professional Counselor Associate with a passion for helping my clients discover, speak, and live the stories they want to be telling. I believe that you are the author of your life's story. And I believe you deserve to live the story of your life in ways that feel free, safe, and authentically you.
As a mental health professional, I believe in the power of therapeutic relationships to guide and support you to the beautiful truths that are nested within us—even when the likes of anxiety, depression, stress, loneliness, self-doubts, past traumas, or worldly pressures make them feel lost or far away.
I am experienced working with young adults and emerging adults (18+), college students and recent post-graduates, as well as adults navigating life transitions and other changes in their 20s, 30s, 40s. I love working with professionals, homemakers, creatives, “seekers”, survivors of trauma, and those who feel called to do some small good in the world—whether in their own heads and hearts, in their backyards and communities, or beyond!
I utilize an eclectic, holistic, and cross-culturally humble approach to counseling that is person-centered and evidence-based. Clients are frequently invited into mindful, here-and-now reflections to tap into the heart of their “felt” experiences and build emotional intelligence. By inviting an honest relationship with your present state of being, day by day, we lean into curiosity and small moments of courage to explore the stories, beliefs, and ideas that may be holding you back from wellness and healthful functioning. I also enjoy utilizing practical approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and journaling and reflection prompts (narrative therapy) to explore small steps that may lead to sustainable changes in your life.
As a counselor and a person, I look through a Relational-Cultural Theory (RCT) lens guided by systems theory to explore and honor my clients’ many intersectional identities, spanning racial, ethnic, gender, and sexual identities to cultural, social, and familial experiences unique to them. I love learning people’s stories and how their experiences, values, and beliefs have shaped their lives, goals, and challenges.
Existential questions like what brings you meaning and fulfillment are always welcome questions in my therapy room: they are the foundation and scaffolding that guide, inform, and shape your therapeutic journey.
I hold a Master of Arts in Holistic Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the College of the Holy Cross. I am a Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) in Connecticut and a Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) in Rhode Island. While I’m not teaching currently, I am an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT-200) with Yoga Alliance and Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP).
Dave participates with Anthem, Aetna, Cigna, and Husky.
Dave provides in-person care on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
A Little More About Me
Outside of counseling, I am a born and bred Rhode Islander of Italian and Irish ancestry and consider myself an introvert, a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), a doggy dad, a lover of travel and culture (I’ve traveled to 29 countries and counting), and a newbie to clay pottery throwing. I’ve been an avid journaler since college and, before entering into mental health, I spent 15 years as a writer, storyteller, life coach and writing coach. Once upon a time, I was a policy intern at an Executive Office of the White House in Washington, DC.
